FULL ‘JOKER’ SCREENPLAY REVEALS FATE OF NEIGHBOR SOPHIE

The full screenplay for Joker that was written by Todd Phillips and Scott Silver has now been made available to the public. Contained in it are two scenes that didn’t make the final cut of the movie. Many were left wondering what the final fate was of Sophie Dumond, Arthur Fleck’s neighbor and love interest, played by Zazie Beetz.

In the film, Sophie’s final appearance came when Arthur broke into her apartment after she had put her daughter to sleep. It then cut to Arthur leaving the flat, never revealing what had happened in the flat. The screenplay now confirms that Sophie had in fact lived, as Arthur did not kill her or her daughter.

In the screen play, Arthur leaves a note on her doorstep telling her to tune in to the Murray Franklin show. As to why the scenes were omitted, Phillips shared that Sophie’s reaction is contrary to the overall film’s motif which was showing the world through Arthur’s eyes and what was going on in his mind.
