Joining a growing list of shows getting the ax, Netflix has announced that it is cancelling Luke Cage. According to a Marvel Press Release:

“Unfortunately, Marvel’s Luke Cage will not return for a third season. Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix are grateful to the dedicated showrunner, writers, cast and crew who brought Harlem’s Hero to life for the past two seasons, and to all the fans who have supported the series.”

The report by Deadline also highlights the high cost associated with making these shows that Netflix does not have ownership of. Of note, season two of Luke Cage was met with mostly positive reviews. It is possible that it could be picked up Disney when it launches its streaming service in 2019.
