SERENA WILLIAMS CONFRONTS UMPIRE WHO ACCUSED HER OF CHEATING

20-year-old Naomi Osaka made history today by becoming the first Japanese player in history to win a Grand Slam final by defeating her idol Serena Williams. What’s making headlines is the feud between Serena and chair umpire Carlos Ramos.

A controversial coaching violation led to her confronting the umpire. Serena demanded an apology from Ramos for implying that she was cheating. She then picked up a second code violation and a point penalty for slamming her racket.

Williams continued to berate Ramos in between games, and Ramos assessed a game penalty, stunning Williams. Osaka went on to close out her victory in straight sets.

Serena was clearly the crowd favorite and had to tell the crowd to stop booing during the awards ceremony. Osaka apologized to the crowd for how the match ended.
