Nike has selected former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick as the individual who will face its “Just Do It” campaign which is celebrating its 30th anniversary. Kaepernick drew attention back in August of 2016 when he knelt during the National Anthem in protest of injustices faced by minorities at the hands of law enforcement. With support from other players and opposition by many including the president, this has truly been a lighting rod issue.
Nike never one to shy away from controversial athletes is featuring a close up of Kaepernick on the ad with the caption: “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.”
The announcement was initial made via ESPN’s Darren Rovell.
