Today was the first day of school for 240 at-risk students who will be attending that first year of the I Promise School. The school was created as an extension of the LeBron James Family Foundation. The school has a host of benefits and will operate differently than traditional schools. For starters, it will operate with a longer-than-normal school year, with a focus on accelerated learning to bring kids up to speed who otherwise might be lagging.
There will also be services available to help students who are dealing with the daily stresses of their parents struggling to make ends meet.
The school will also provide job placement assistance for parents, an on-site food bank and a bicycle for every student upon arrival.
