DAVID BECKHAM GETS MLS FRANCHISE

It’s been almost five years since footballer David Beckham played his last professional game.  Today the MLS announced that the football icon will be getting his own MLS franchise.  MLS granted the Miami franchise to Beckham’s ownership group which has been fighting for years to bring a franchise back to Miami. There are no details in terms of a team name or when the franchise will begin playing.  Beckham is said to be targeting the 2020 season. Beckham’s ownership group has secured three acres of land in Miami’s Overtown neighborhood to build the club’s $200 million USD, 25,000-seat stadium.

Notable Quotes: “People are turning around to me already and saying, ‘What players are you getting?’ We’re not at that stage yet. Yes, we have a wish list, yes we want to create a state-of-the-art academy that brings young talented local kids through the ranks. … We have to set up the academy, that’s the first thing we do, and then we go from there.” – David Beckham
