Mercedes-Benz and BMW are planning on launching subscription services stateside this year. Mercedes will test the pilot program in the coming months to make sure its a good fit for the car-maker long-term. BMW will “most likely” test the service in one market this year as well.

Why this matters: Cadillac, Porsche, Volvo and Lincoln are currently testing vehicle subscription services of their own. Subscription plans generally offer customers a vehicle to drive for a monthly fee that includes insurance, maintenance and pickup and delivery. Customers typically can switch among available vehicles based on needs.
