High-end watch-maker Omega is officially launched its first eCommerce website. The move is an indication of where they continue to see consumer behavior going and that is they way of growing online sales.

Why this matters: Historically, watch companies sold through authorized dealers. These were medium to large jewelry shops that had to show a certain level of traffic and earning potential. These ADs had to take whatever was given to them – boxes of unwanted straps, older watches, etc. – in order to get the latest models. The AD network is failing and falling out of fashion with today’s retail methods.

Dollars and Sense: At the end of the day, the move was a smart one for Omega. They can control what is being sold and more importantly, they will be able to keep a larger share of its profits.
