Following a quiet round of layoffs, ESPN has announced it has plans to launch a digital streaming service dubbed “ESPN Plus” which will debut in Spring 2018. The launch of the service is in an effort to stem recent losses.
The details: “ESPN Plus” will launch in the spring and will be available through a new redesigned version of the ESPN app. It will stream channels on an authenticated basis and consumers can subscribe to the app for additional sports content.
The service will be supported by ads: unlike its sister entertainment product that Disney plans to launch in 2019 to rival Netflix.
