Netflix has taken steps to suspend “House of Cards” star Kevin Spacey amid the growing sexual assault claims. The Producer of the series, Media Rights took the action on Friday which is a move that is legally necessary to eventually firing Spacey.
“Netflix will not be involved with any further production of House of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey. We will continue to work with MRC during this hiatus time to evaluate our path forward as it relates to the show.” – Spokesman for Netflix
“MRC, in partnership with Netflix, will continue to evaluate a creative path forward for the program during the hiatus.” – MRC
Why this matters:
Several cast “House of Cards” cast members have recently opened up in recent interviews and shared their experience with Spacey. “I have no doubt that this type of predatory behavior was routine for him and that my experience was one of many and that Kevin had few if any qualms about exploiting his status and position,” a production assistant who was allegedly harassed and assaulted by Spacey said. “It was a toxic environment for young men who had to interact with him at all in the crew, cast, background actors.”
