When you think of California, you think about a laid-back California vibe, beautiful sandy beaches and amazing views from the hills. Well, there’s nothing laid-back about the Slingshot, and we are perfectly ok with that. We recently took a trip out West to spend a few days in the OC with the Slingshot team and journey through the Malibu hills behind the wheel of the 2018s.
Our ride day began at the Erwin Hotel steps from iconic Venice beach where we were briefed by the Slingshot team on the nuances of the vehicle and what the company had in store for the future. After a quick bite it was time to hit the road.
It’s hard to put into words what the Slingshot is. Is it a three-wheeled motorcycle or is it an automobile? That’s inherently the fun of driving one of these things is that it keeps people guessing. What’s not hard to put into words is the exhilarating feeling we got as we drove through hills and SoCal streets, turning heads with each stop. The Slingshot is an education in autobikes.
We had a California State Trooper escort us on our journey, which was really cool when it came time to block off streets and hold traffic as we made our way through L.A. Nothing was held back. We had the opportunity to push the slingshot as far as we could and it handled everything we threw at it and then some. It gripped the road and handled hairpin turns effortlessly. Our day culminated with a delicious lunch at Malibu Farm. If you are ever out that, it is highly recommended.
The 2018 Slingshot lineup consists of the Slingshot S, SL, SLR and SLR LE. Available features include an all new, industry-leading 7” multi-touch Ride Command, Bluetooth connectivity, 10-way adjustable suspension, 200w Rockford Fosgate audio, premium sport seats with color-matched side bolsters, two-tone Ghost Gray with Lime Squeeze painted accents, and special edition graphics.
One of the most amazing features and its also its newest is the Slingshade (roof) that adds another dimension to your slingshot.
If you’re someone that’s not accustom to grabbing attention anywhere you go, this isn’t the vehicle for you. But if you’re someone that’s cut from a different cloth and is looking for something non-traditional, this is absolutely the autobike for you. Hit the strip, pop the clutch and get ready to have the ride of your life.
Pricing for the 2018 Slingshot starts just under $20,000 USD . To learn more about the complete lineup, head over to the Slingshot website.
Big thank you to the Slingshot team for hosting us.
