Facebook continues its all-in attack on Snapchat with the introduction of Stories with the new in-app camera feature. With the update, users will be able to get to the new in-app Facebook Camera with one swipe and will be able to share a picture privately with a friend, or share it on their news feed. As with Snapchat and with Instagram Stories the posts are ephemeral and will disappear after 24 hours. While Snap (Snapchat’s) parent company was focused on its IPO and building its Spectacles glasses, they left the door wide open to Facebook to go after their core product which they can now offer to the older crowd who Snap ignored. “Our goal here is to give people more to do on Facebook, and that’s really been the main inspiration,” said Connor Hayes, a Facebook product manager. Facebook has a massive user base and endless resources. It’ll be interesting to see how far they take Stories as it gets rolled out over the coming weeks.
