In the wee hours of the morning, Roger Federer brought home his 18th career Grand Slam by defeating longtime rival Rafael Nadal in an epic five-set match. In the fifth set, Nadal went up 2-0. Down 3-1, Federer went into a new gear to knot the match at 3-3. Then held serve and broke Nadal to go up 5-3. Nadal quickly jumped out to a 40-15 lead before a series of successful challenges went in Federer’s favor and he was eventually crowned champ. This was the fourth time the pair has gone five sets in a Grand Slam final, the most in the Open era.
