The interwebs are littered with counterfeit products.  Most can be found on eBay. To help combat this ongoing issue, eBay has launched new service called “eBay Authenticate”. This new service is available for high-end products. The program works like this: for a fee eBay will give the seller an opportunity to send their item to an authenticator after selling the piece. The authenticator will review the item(s) and send it on to the buyer. To build up trust for products sold on eBay, the company  will refund the buyer two times the cost of the original purchase price (depending on region and terms) if the item is found to be a fake after the inspection. For now the program is focused on fashion related products and may expand to other areas. ice President of eBay Consumer Selling Laura Chambers shares:

“We know that many shoppers may be hesitant to purchase high-end products online. This service is designed to help quell some of those concerns — and in turn — enhance the opportunity for our sellers to get top dollar for their items.”
