WHY VIOLA DAVIS IS THE EARLY OSCAR CONTENDER WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR

With the Golden Globe Awards just a few short days away, the Oscar buzz is already building for best Supporting Actress nominee Viola Davis for her role as Rose Maxson in the film adaptation of the August Wilson play Fences.  Viola plays the wife of Troy Maxson (Denzel Washington) a father and family man who is still trying to figure life out after eighteen years and numerous opportunities have passed him by. Although the move is about Washington’s character, Davis quietly steals the show and we realize the story is as much about Rose as it is about Troy.  Could this be the year that we see what appears to be a lead role take home the award in the best Supporting Actress category. Fences is in theaters now and the Golden Globe Awards will air on Sunday, January 8th at 8:00pm EST on NBC. Check out the trailer above to see why she’s our favorite going into awards season.
