CRISTIANO RONALDO WINS THE 2016 BALLON D’OR

Real Madrid CF v Legia Warszawa - UEFA Champions League

The Real Madrid and Portugal star has added another trophy to his collection, the prestigious Ballon d’Or. Announced earlier this afternoon, Ronaldo was the leading vote-getter in the poll of 173 journalists. Cristiano Ronaldo beat out Argentina’s Lionel Messi and Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann to finish a banner year. Ronaldo was pivotal as Real bested rivals Atletico in May to become European champions for a record 11th time. Sixty days later Portugal won their first major trophy at the UEFA EURO 2016 Cup.

Commenting on his award, Ronaldo said:

“I love to play football, so I will try my best to win for Real Madrid first, because it is my team, for the national team to win again if it is possible, we know that it is very, very difficult, and to win it (Ballon d’Or) again next year.

“I will try my best, work hard as always and I will enjoy this moment because it is not easy to win this.”
