Earlier in the week, UFC fighter Jon “Bones” Jones was handed a 1-year suspension for violating US Anti-Doping regulations. This resulted in the UFC stripping the champ of his Light Heavyweight title. This marks the second time in as many years that this has happened to the 29-year-old.
“It doesn’t make sense,” UFC president Dana White told ESPN. “He was the interim champion because he should have been fighting for the title [in April]. We gave him this, ‘You were supposed to fight for the title. Here it is.’ It doesn’t make sense with all the stuff that is going on for him to still be the interim champion.”
Jones added, “Greatest talent ever and the biggest screw-up ever.”
Jones (22-1) was provisionally suspended in July after testing positive for the banned substances clomiphene and letrozole.
