Beginning today, popular blogging platform Tumblr will be releasing an ad program that will allow bloggers that use the platform to share in the ad revenue. Details of the program are still sparse, but there is an option to opt in or out of the program if you don’t want your blog be overrun with banner ads. This news comes after parent company Yahoo was acquired this week by Verizon.
According to Fortune, this isn’t Tumblr’s first foray into advertising. In 2012, it started to work with a limited number of advertisers by placing curated ads into its users’ account dashboard. In 2013, it also opened the doors to brands paying to promote their blogs to other Tumblr users.
