Detroit-based design imprint Shinola, is set to open the doors to two new locations in Northern California this winter, one in Palo Alto and one in San Francisco. The 1,700-square-foot Downtown Palo Alto retail space at 261 Hamilton Avenue will open this month. Situated in the landmark Birge Clark building, the store will stay true to the building’s historical 1927 design but will include traditional Shinola fixtures. It will also feature a community gathering space to encourage creative minds to meet for private or public events.
The 3,200-square foot San Francisco store will open in February. It will be located at 722 Montgomery Place inside the landmarked 19th-century Belli Building. It will offer the full lineup of Shinola’s goods along with a rotating pop-up shop from partner American designers.
“When Shinola was conceived in 2011, the hope was that people would be interested in the concept of creating world-class manufacturing jobs in a city like Detroit, known for its manufacturing legacy,” said COO Heath Carr. “In addition to Detroit, we collaborate with factories and makers from many cities. It’s with these collaborations that we create products that are long-lasting and made with passion and purpose. We are energized by the entrepreneurial spirit of the Bay Area and are excited to be part of the community.”
