INSIDE THE SYNDICATE: THE PHOTOGRAPHER WHO SPENT TWO YEARS LIVING WITH JAPAN’S YAKUZA


Back in 2009, a Belgian photographer was given unprecedented access into one of Japan’s notorious Yakuza families. It was impressive enough for Anton Kusters to gain such access.  But what was more impressive was the fact that he was allowed to document his experience. The Economist just published this fascinating new 6-minute feature on Kusters, titled “Inside the Syndicate.” It’s a slideshow of the resulting work, with Kusters’ voice narrating the images and his story.
