The video may have brought to light some of the catcalling issues some women face on a daily basis, but according to TMZ the woman that was at the center of the video is now taking its creators to court. Shoshana Roberts is suing anti-street harassment group Hollaback! for $500,000 due to the rape threats, death threats, and online abuse she’s received since the video was released. The organization found Roberts via a Craigslist for which she was paid $200 for her work. The organization has gone on to receive donations as well as ad revenue.
“It’s frustrating when the nonprofit gets donations, and the director gets ad revenue, and I get people wanting to slit my throat,” Roberts said, adding that the company violated her civil rights by creating and releasing videos containing “creative content, performance, image, likeness and persona for the purposes of advertising or trade without her prior written consent.”
