Forbes has come out with its annual list of its highest paid celebrities. Leading the way for the women is Katy Perry having made $135 million over the past year. She comes in third overall just behind boxers Floyd Mayweather ($300 million) and recent opponent Manny Pacquiao ($160 million). It may come as a surprise that she beat out other superstars such as Taylor Swift ($80 million), Lady Gaga ($59 million) and Beyonce ($54.5 million). Forbes attributes her massive earnings to the success that she has achieved overseas.
She’s averaged a staggering $20 per head per night in merchandise sales on the tour, according to her managers, about four times the industry’s average. All in all, 60% of her total income now flows from outside of North America. “She has a talent for reaching a very wide audience, and her themes resonate across cultures, race and gender,” says Chuck Leavell, keyboardist for the Rolling Stones. “The music matches well with the lyrics, and the tunes are infectious. She is a true global artist.”
