In celebration of and promotion for his latest film Southpaw, actor Jake Gyllenhaal lands on the July cover of Esquire UK magazine. With the beach serving as the backdrop, Gyllenhaal is photographed by Eric Ray Davidson. In the article he talks about how he has shifted his career priorities over the last several years and the work that he’s done in films such as The Day After Tomorrow andPrince of Persia: The Sands of Time to more challenging roles like Southpaw.
He goes on to say “I woke up one day and I wasn’t in the right room. It was like a David Byrne song: ‘That’s not my beautiful house. That’s not my beautiful wife.’” Following that realization, Gyllenhaal relocated from Los Angeles to New York, pursued Broadway and made movies such as End of Watch, when in his experience, “redefined for me how I wanted to make movies.”
