It’s mid March of 2013, and Thom Browne has accomplished more in two and half months than most designers would in a lifetime. Following his dressing of the first lady for the Presidential inauguration and a nomination for the CFDA’s Menswear Designer of the Year, the legendary American designer celebrated the opening of his first free standing flagship store in Tokyo.
Located in the Aoyama district, some of his neighbors include Marc Jacobs, Kate Spade and Prada. In typical Thom Browne fashion, the designer wanted his 4,500-square-foot space to be a full-on experience, and to seem as “non-retail as possible.” The store borrows the beautiful minimalism aesthetics of an Apple store. The next time your travels find you in Japan, be sure to stop by.
